Dear ladies and gentlemen:
First of all, we want to present ourselves. The Dr Juan Antonio Ortega
García and the Dr Josep Ferrís i Tortajada are two paediatricians
members of the Paediatric Environmental Health
Speciality Unit of the Children´s Hospital
University "The Faith"
- Valencia.

In second place we would like to comment them very shortly the concepts
and main objectives of the PEHSU. Our performance
areas embrace to all the pediatric specialties but only centered in the
preventive aspects. The medicine in general and the pediatrics in
particular, they are oriented fundamentally in the diagnosis and
treatment of the illnesses. The spectacular advances obtained in the
last decades in the survival of the pediatric cancer, has not
accompanied of an advance in the knowledge of their causes or factors of
risk implied in their development. One of the high-priority areas of the
PEHSU is to obtain the Pediatric Environmental History (HMAP) in
Oncology, as first step to know and to document what constitutional
factors of risk and medioambientales (physical, chemical, biological
and social) they are associated to the pediatric cancers in our country.
Everything it, agreement lógicamente, with the ethical approaches of
confidentiality, privacy and voluntariedad, according to the medical
deontology and the effective legality. We also want that the principles
of the Environmental Justice (http://www.pehsu.org/justice/justicia.htm)
among the families of the children with cáncer is a reality. The
affected social sectors or damaged by the hypothetical factors of risk
ambientales cancerígenos they should be main and decisive and never
secondary or passive actors in all the activities that we seek to
develop from the PEHSU.
En third place to communicate them officially that a project of
investigation of the PEHSU titled Environment and Pediatric Cancer, to
started to be financed by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish
Association Against Cancer (http://www.aecc.es/fundacion/proyectos.html).
Modestly we seek to develop the HMAP to all the
cases of pediatric cancers that are diagnosed during the years
2004-2006. We have the collaboration of the RNTI-SEOP and their director
the Prof Rafael Peris Bonet is also investigator of the project,
subordinated to the conformity of the next General Assembly of the
Spanish Society of Pediatric Oncology. All told we would like to know
their opinion, as well as to offer to clarify doubts or queries in this
respect. We also want to request their collaboration and to be to their
whole disposition to develop an intense and fruitful term soon so that
the prevention of the pediatric cancers is reality. We attach him a
triptych that we have prepared for the Spanish Federation of Children
with Cancer, as amended of one that have prepared for Aspanion.
